A Gilt's Guide to Locks
A downloadable Supplemental Rules
This is a guide for what I’m calling “warded locks” which is based on the Errant’s Lockpicking skill game, and Telecanter’s Procedural Lockpicking blog post.
It should work fine in any OSR or other system with locks to be picked.
The concept behind procedural lockpicking is a quick puzzle minigame, of typically 3 wards, each requiring an action (in errant’s case twist, tap, or turn) and never repeating an action twice. That way players learn that similar locks will have a similar pattern.
This guide provides 7 various lock smiths, with 3 locks each, and interesting little quirks and trade secrets about each kind of lock.
